On September 16th, the SubMIT team hosted a user group meeting, bringing together representatives from various divisions across MIT physics department. These regular gatherings provide a space for users to exchange experiences, raise questions, and share feedback directly with the SubMIT operations team.

A highlight of this meeting was a presentation on A2rchi – An Open Source LLM Framework, a project jointly developed by faculty and students from MIT’s Physics and Computer Science departments. Already deployed on the SubMIT private cloud and in courses 8.01 and 8.511, A2rchi helps students navigate SubMIT resources and lightens the load on TAs by handling common questions on Piazza. Unlike commercial solutions, it is fully open-source, model-agnostic, and integrates directly with Piazza and Redmine, making it a flexible fit for MIT’s teaching and research needs.

The talk showed just how easy it is to dive into A2rchi, run it on your own laptop, and see the new AI tools coming to SubMIT. Every meeting brings a different spotlight on how SubMIT powers research, so if you’re curious, swing by, hear what others are doing, and add your voice.

The next SubMIT users meeting will take place on October 28, featuring Benedikt Maier, former MIT postdoc and now Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellow at Imperial College London, who will present “Multimodal training of jet taggers on SubMIT“.
