Using SubMIT

The SubMIT system, managed by the SubMIT project team and supported by the Physics Department, requires users to adhere to fundamental principles of responsible and ethical usage.

Guidelines

SubMIT systems are designated for research related to MIT projects and collaborations. This includes a broad range of activities and users are expected to exercise sound judgment and common sense. The system must not be used for:

  • Commercial purposes or non-MIT activities.
  • Any activity that could be considered illegal or criminal. Handling datasets obtained unlawfully, unanonymized data, or data subject to ITAR or other national security regulations.

All usage must comply with MIT’s Institute-wide IT policies, including the MITnet Rules of Use. For detailed guidance on data policies if you are uncertain about a specific use case, contact submit-help@mit.edu.

Users must not share accounts and should take appropriate security measures to protect credentials like passwords, SSH keys etc. Compliance with system administrators’ instructions is mandatory to ensure system stability and fair access for all users.

Code of Conduct

As a shared resource, the SubMIT system serves a diverse research community. Users are expected to:

  • Maintain a professional, courteous, and collaborative environment.
  • Respect the privacy of others and refrain from accessing unauthorized system areas.

By adhering to these guidelines, all users contribute to a secure, efficient, and collegial research environment.
