On Saturday, March 22, the SubMIT computing analysis facility experienced an unexpected six-hour outage, between 1pm and 7pm, due to a building-wide network failure. The disruption was traced to a scheduled MIT router upgrade, during which the intended failover to a secondary router did not occur as expected. As a result, SubMIT was rendered inaccessible until connectivity was restored. The SubMIT team is actively investigating the failover issue to help prevent similar interruptions in the future and appreciates users’ patience during the downtime.
