Changes at the helm

by

We would like to announce a change of leadership of the subMIT project team. David Walter is in charge of the subMIT project team starting from January 1, 2025.

David started his appointment with the PPC group on December 1, 2024 and had about a month to take over from Josh. David hails from Germany, where he did his PhD in Hamburg/DESY oin top quark physics at the CMS experiment. He went on to become a CERN fellow and became one of the key contributors to the W boson mass measurement where he worked closely with the MIT team and in particular with Josh our outgoing subMIT project manager.

After over two years of excellent leadership Joshua Bendavid has accepted an appointment as CERN permanent staff (big congratulations!). Josh’s tenure as the project leader was during a phase of major upgrades and adjustments of the project. It found its final location (in Building 24), the team converged on the final mass storage solution (cephFS) and established regular User Group meetings. Thank you Josh, it was a pleasure!

While subMIT is in great shape now there is still a lot of work left for David and the team, apart from supporting the day-to-day questions of users, the projects needs to learn how to better deal with the rapidly raising number of users and their retirement once they leave, optimal management of the computing resources, just to name a few.
