The subMIT project team is finally ready to release fourteen refurbished servers to the subMIT users, which hold four GPUs each. The machines were donated to subMIT from our lattice QCD colleges and needed some care. The machines are available for use in slurm using the submit-gpu1080 partition.

After a summer of refurbishment of the old machines with four NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphic processor units (GPUs) each, we thought we could release them early in September but had to realize the power they use was too much for the power strips we had available. Serious stress tests quickly tripped the breakers.

Finally after installation of additional power strips we are glad to release these re-newed GPUs to the public. Kevin Burdge’s intense test code could not trip the breakers as seen in the plot below.
