Early this week the eagerly awaited 100 Gbit/sec network connection has arrived in Building 24 to be able to connect the on campus resources with the world at the 100 Gbit/sec level. The connection before was at the 10 Gbit/sec level. It turns out that the fibre ends up directly in the main network hub in Building 24 which is where our on-campus resources reside.

The relatively large datasets of several physics analyses, like the CMS datasets for the measurement of the W mass, can now flow ten times faster than before. A big thank you to the IS&T organization for having set this up.

Next week we are going to try to connect our switch with this new network to take full advantage of this data firehose.
