Our yearly SubMIT workshop took place on Friday, January 23rd. We started with Christoph and David giving an introduction and an overview of the SubMIT system and presented upgrades that have been carried out in the last year, including expanded GPU services, OS upgrades, and new software support, and discussed what will be the Future of the cluster in the upcoming year, in particular aimed at continuing to improve reliability and availability of resources.

We then heard how our Users are leveraging the cluster to enable their wonderful physics research and outreach:

• Ascend Fellow Sarah Geller gave a great talk on the use of Markov Chain Monte Carlos to study Primordial Black Holes as dark matter candidates using our Slurm queuing system, including a custom SubMIT Tutorial for herself and collaborators — the type of organization we love to see!
• Professor Tracy Slatyer described her use of our GPUs to model dark matter signals using the 21cm line
• Senior Research Scientist (and CMS Physics Coordinator!) Guillelmo Gomez-Ceballos gave a big picture overview of how CMS analyses are conducted on the cluster
• Assistant Professor Lina Necib described her use of SubMIT for the upcoming Gaia Hackathon, a great way to leverage the available resources!
• MIT postdoc Ahmed Abouelkomsan gave a talk on using machine learning on SubMIT to study quantum states of matter

Finally, the SubMIT Project Team gave several tutorials on: getting started on SubMIT, batch computing, environment management, containers, custom software like OpenMPI and Globus, and how LLM systems are being developed on SubMIT.
