The new year begins with the farewell of a valued member of our project team: Zhangqier Wang (Qier), a founding member of SubMIT since 2021. Qier has been an expert in setting up and commissioning machines, configuring networks, and installing, upgrading, and debugging software—among many other contributions. He served as a key contact for job submission via HTCondor and related protocols. As the administrator of the MIT CMS Tier-3 computing facility, he managed the computing pool that is also accessible through SubMIT, ensuring reliable and efficient operation for the community.

The SubMIT model is build on an ever changing project team. What marks Qier as a great member, beyond his direct contribution, is the continuation of his work. In the last months he carefully documented his work and transferred knowledge to the next generation, such that the operation proceeds as flawless as possible.

The SubMIT project team warmly thanks Qier and wishes him all the best on his next journey. Although now on the other side of the world, Qier will remain part of our community. As an assistant professor at Zhejiang University in China, he will continue his work in high-energy physics and computing. And who knows—perhaps we will welcome him again in the future as an external speaker at one of our events!

At the same time, we are delighted to welcome our new project team member, Jan Eysermans. Jan brings years of experience with SubMIT through his work on the CMS experiment, where he has focused on precision measurements of electroweak processes. In addition, he contributes to studies for the Future Circular Collider (FCC). Students at MIT might remember him from managing the FCC months during IAP in previous years.

Jan also has extensive computing experience from his work on the CMS Tier-0 at CERN, where he helps manage the primary data flow from the LHC to permanent storage. As an avid HTCondor user himself, he will take over responsibilities in this area going forward.

With Qier embarking on an exciting new chapter and Jan joining the team, SubMIT continues to evolve, building on strong foundations while looking confidently toward the future.
