{"id":845,"date":"2025-05-23T18:21:32","date_gmt":"2025-05-23T18:21:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/submit.mit.edu\/?p=845"},"modified":"2025-05-23T18:21:33","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T18:21:33","slug":"annual-submit-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/submit.mit.edu\/?p=845","title":{"rendered":"Annual SubMIT review"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On May 22, SubMIT had its annual review where the project team presented to the steering committee a summary of the cluster&#8217;s performance and recent upgrades. SubMIT started on December 9, 2021 and has now grown to 975 users, with consistently 50-80 weekly active users. From its inception, SubMIT&#8217;s goal has been to allow Physics researchers to access high-performance resources, enabling easy access for newcomers while supporting advanced customization for experienced users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happened in the past year?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few of this past year&#8217;s key realizations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Upgraded the operating system on all machines from CentOS7 to AlmaLinux 9<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changed the \/data file system from gluster to cephFS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrated 6 machines (75 to 77, 82, 95 and 96) to provide hundreds of additional cores and increase the storage space by 3 times so we can continue to accomodate new users<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installed OpenMPI and added a Globus endpoint<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hosting A2rchi directly on the system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Added network links to reach 100 Gbps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set up loose restrictions to improve the overall stability, e.g. by enforcing users to access the GPU nodes via slurm rather than direct login<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">User support with SubMIT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We analyzed all user tickets (emails sent to <a href=\"mailto:submit-help@mit.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">submit-help@mit.edu<\/a>) collected within the last two years.
