We are excited to welcome Alexander (Alex) Avdoshkin to the subMIT team as of August 2025. Alex is a postdoctoral researcher in the Condensed Matter Theory (CMT) group at MIT and brings a strong background in theoretical physics, with a focus on quantum materials, application artificial intelligence to scientific research, and high-performance computing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alex completed his PhD at UC Berkeley under the supervision of Prof. Joel Moore, where he investigated the transport and optical properties of quantum materials. His research explored how geometric and topological band structure features shape nonlinear optical responses and hydrodynamic behavior in electronic systems. His other line of work on quantum dynamics involved extensive use of exact diagonalization and tensor network methods to study emergent phenomena. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Much of Alex’s current research relies on deep-learning tools to simulate quantum many-body systems, making high-performance computing a central tool in his studies. His work has consistently involved using GPUs, and optimized linear algebra to enable precise and scalable calculations in condensed matter physics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At subMIT, Alex will help develop and optimize GPU-based computing capabilities within the subMIT facility. His deep familiarity with scientific computing workflows makes him a valuable addition to the team as we try to improve our GPU offerings and support users in both experimental and theoretical domains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
